How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Idaho

The Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date either by telephone, through the mail, using the DMV's online service, or in person.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY TELEPHONE

You can use a touchtone phone to renew your registration. You will need a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) to pay for the renewal transaction. The procedure takes less than five minutes.

  1. Have your credit card and registration renewal handy before the call.
  2. Call (208) 334-8649.
  3. Follow the instructions of the automated attendant to complete the registration renewal.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY U.S. MAIL

Send the completed registration renewal form and the appropriate payment by check or money order to:

REGISTRATION RENEWAL VIA THE INTERNET

  1. Go to the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles Online Services website.
  2. Only specific counties allow online renewal. Check for your county name.
  3. Have your card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) handy to pay for the renewal. You will also need your billing address.
  4. There will be a $1 access fee and in some counties there may also be an extra County fee.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN PERSON

  1. Locate the county assessor's vehicle licensing office closest to you.
  2. Bring the registration renewal form, along with cash/check/credit or debit card to pay for the renewal.

FEES

In Idaho, the basic annual registration fee for different categories of passenger vehicles and motor homes ranges from $35 to $60. It depends on age, type, weight, county of residence etc. For more information, check here.

FOR CORRECTIONS

  1. Before renewal, check for errors in the pre-printed vehicle renewal notice that arrived in the mail.
  2. For corrections or change of address, you can fax the filled and signed form to (208) 334-8586, or mail it to the address given on the form, before renewal.
  3. For any other error, dial (208) 334-8649 and explain the error to the DMV customer service agent
