How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in New Mexico
The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration by mail. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date either by telephone, using the MVD's online service, or in person.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY TELEPHONE
You can use a touchtone phone to renew your registration. You will need a credit card (Visa or MasterCard) to pay for the renewal transaction. The procedure takes less than 5 minutes.
- Have your credit card (MasterCard or Visa only), registration renewal notice and the emissions certificate (required only for vehicles in Bernalillo County) handy before the call.
- You can call the MVD Integrated Voice Response system in Santa Fe, NM at (505) 827-4636 or Toll-Free: 1-888-MVD-INFO (1-888-683-4636)
- Follow the instructions of the automated attendant to complete the registration renewal.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL VIA THE INTERNET
- Go to the New Mexico Department of Motor Vehicles Online Services website.
- Have your credit card (Visa or MasterCard) handy to pay for the renewal.
- There is a $1.75 electronic transaction fee for online renewals. Note: If your address needs to be changed, you cannot renew online, as you have to notify the MVD in writing about the address change.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN PERSON
- Locate the DMV office in your area.
- Bring the registration renewal form.
FEES
Registration for different categories of vehicles in New Mexico will have different fees that range from $20 to $400 depending on the type of vehicle, model, weight and number of years the registration is being renewed for, as seen here in FAQ #6.FOR CORRECTIONS
- Before renewal, check for errors in the pre-printed vehicle renewal notice that arrived in the mail.
- For correction or change of address, you have to notify the MVD in writing, by using this form before renewing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
