How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Kansas

The Kansas Division of Motor Vehicles notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration by mail. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date either by telephone, through the mail, using the DMV's online service, or in person.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY TELEPHONE

You can use a touchtone phone to renew your registration. You will need a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) or an e-Check to pay for the renewal transaction.

  1. Have your credit card and the registration renewal notice with the Personal Identification Number (PIN), handy before the call.
  2. Call the number1-866-4KS-TAGS (457-8247).
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the registration renewal.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY U.S. MAIL

REGISTRATION RENEWAL VIA THE INTERNET

  1. If your insurance company is not an information sharing partner with the Kansas Division of Motor Vehicles you cannot renew your vehicle registration on the Internet.
  2. If you are eligible, go to the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles Online Services website.
  3. Have your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) handy to pay for the renewal. You can also request an electronic withdrawal from your checking account.
  4. Have your registration renewal PIN and information about your vehicle ready.
  5. There is an additional fee for online renewals, which depends on the registration fee.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN PERSON

  • Locate the DMV office or County Treasurer's Office in your area.
  • Bring the registration renewal form, license plate number and insurance proof along with cash, check, credit or debit card to pay for the renewal.

Registration for different categories of vehicles in Kansas will have different fees. To ascertain the appropriate amount, contact your local County Treasurer's Office.
