HOW TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE
A Kansas Motorcycle License can be renewed in person at any driver's license exam station in the State. The Kansas Division of Motor Vehicles notifies owners of the expiration date of their motorcycle license by mail in advance.
WHEN TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE
Your Kansas motorcycle license will generally expire on your birthday. The expiration year depends on your age. For drivers under 21, the license expires on 21st birthday, for drivers aged 21-65, the license is valid for 6 years; and for drivers aged 65 and older, the license valid for 4 years. It is advisable to renew your motorcycle license before the expiration date as a penalty of $1 will be imposed thereafter. You can renew your license any time two years prior to its expiration. You need to pass a vision and a knowledge test. Alternatively, you can get a certificate from an ophthalmologist, provided it is not earlier than 3 months from the date of your renewal application.
TO RENEW IN PERSON
You must bring:
- Your expiring motorcycle license and proof of identity.
- Proof of Kansas Residency. For foreign visitors proof of lawful presence is required.
- A valid Social Security number.
- The renewal fee, which depends on the type of license and validity, and may also include a photo fee and exam fee.
- Complete the Kansas Renewal, Extension or Replacement form that is applicable for your situation.

You must replace your motorcycle license if your original license has been lost, stolen or destroyed.TO REPLACE IN PERSON
You must:- Bring proper identification. The state of Kansas requires that you present two pieces of authorized ID and a proof of residence.
- Bring the correct fee. Only cash, check or money order is accepted. Please contact your driver's license exam station to confirm the fee before applying in person, since fees may vary.
- If your motorcycle license will expire within the next one year, you can renew your license instead of applying for a replacement.
- Download and complete the appropriate application form from the Department of Revenue website. The correct form to be submitted depends on your age, location and military status.
- Obtain a money order or check for the replacement fee made payable to: Kansas DMV. Alternatively payment can be made with a Discover card by providing information in the application form. A 50 cent fee will apply in this case.
