How to Renew/Replace a Motorcycle License in Georgia

HOW TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

A Georgia Motorcycle License can be renewed online, by mail, by phone or in person at any Driver's License Customer Service Center in the State. Georgia law requires DDS to administer a vision test to drivers over age 64 who must visit a Customer Service Center to undertake the test, and therefore cannot renew their motorcycle license by mail, phone or over the Internet.

The Georgia Department of Driver Services notifies owners of the expiration date of their motorcycle license by mail, approximately two months in advance, if DDS has your digital signature, photograph and fingerprint on file. In addition, your driving record must be clear of any suspensions, cancellations or revocations.

WHEN TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

Your Georgia motorcycle license is generally valid for five or ten years and will expire on your birthday. You can renew your license any time in the year leading up to its expiration.

TO RENEW IN PERSON

You must bring:

  • Your expiring motorcycle license or Proof of Identity if the expiring license is not available.
  • If your name has changed, documentation of the name change is required.
  • The license renewal fee. The acceptable form of payment is by cash, check, money order or credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover).

The entire process takes a few minutes, after which the renewed motorcycle license will arrive by mail within four weeks.

Note: Non-US citizens must renew in person by providing proof of legal presence apart from other required documents.

TO RENEW VIA THE INTERNET

  • You cannot renew online on or after the expiration date.
  • You will need the Resident Identification Number (RIN) located on the renewal notice.
  • You can renew online by following these simple steps.
  • Credit card information for paying the renewal fee. If you choose to renew your motorcycle license online, you are eligible for a $5 discount.

TO RENEW BY PHONE

To renew by phone, you must have your license renewal information at hand and call the Georgia Customer Service Center at (678) 413-8400. Call (866) 754-3687 if you are calling from outside the Atlanta metro area.

TO RENEW BY U.S. MAIL

When you renew by mail, you should prepare and/or complete:

  • The renewal application form
  • Credit card information for renewal fee. There is no service fee to renew the license by mail.
  • If you choose to renew your motorcycle license by mail, you are eligible for a $5 discount.

Mail all the documents to:

Department of Driver Services

Conyers, GA 30013

The renewed motorcycle license will arrive by mail within four weeks.

HOW TO REPLACE YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

A Georgia Motorcycle License can be replaced online at the DDS website or in person at any Driver's License Customer Service Center in the State.

WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

You must replace your motorcycle license if your original license has been lost, stolen or destroyed.

TO REPLACE IN PERSON

You must:

  • Bring proper identification. The state of Georgia requires that you present one piece of ID from Category A or two pieces of ID from Category B as listed on this page in on the DDS website.
  • Bring the correct fee. Checks, cash, money orders or credit cards are accepted. Please contact the Driver's License Customer Service Center to confirm the fee before applying in person, since fees may vary.
  • If your license has been stolen, you are required to file a police report and submit a copy of the police report when applying for a duplicate license. Your identity can then be protected by changing your license number.
  • If your motorcycle license will expire within the next 60 days, you can renew your license instead of applying for a replacement.

TO REPLACE VIA THE INTERNET

You may replace your motorcycle license online. To be eligible to apply online, your license must be valid for at least another six months and you must reside at the address mentioned on your license. To replace online, you will need:

  • Motorcycle license number.
  • Date of birth and Social Security number.
  • Online payment can be made with a major credit card.
