How to Renew/Replace a Motorcycle License in Nevada

HOW TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

A Nevada Motorcycle License can be renewed in person at any DMV office in the State, or by mail or the internet. You will receive a postcard 30 days before your license is set to expire, informing you. The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles notifies owners whether they have qualified for a renewal of their motorcycle license by mail or internet.

WHEN TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

Your Nevada motorcycle license will expire on your birthday every four years. Your driving privileges expire on the midnight of your birthday if you do not renew. You can renew your license any time prior to its expiration.

TO RENEW IN PERSON

You must bring:

  • Your expiring motorcycle license and the renewal application.
  • If your name has changed, documentation of the name change is required.
  • Renewal fee payable by cash, check or credit card, based on your age (if you are age 65 or older, the fee is reduced).

Depending on your driving record, especially if you received a notice in the mail not qualifying you for renewal over the internet or mail, you may be required to take additional tests. The only acceptable exceptions are military personnel, their spouses and dependants.

TO RENEW VIA THE INTERNET

If you received a renewal notice with an access code on it, you may choose to renew your motorcycle license on the DMV website. You will require:

  • The renewal notice with an access code.
  • Renewal fee which can be paid via checking account number and routing number if you wish to use the e-check option, or any acceptable credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express).

TO RENEW BY U.S. MAIL

Renewal by mail is available only if you receive a postcard in the mail qualifying you for it. To renew by mail, you should prepare and/or complete:

Follow the instructions on the postcard to send in all the documents. The renewed motorcycle license will arrive by mail within four to six weeks.

HOW TO REPLACE YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

A Nevada Motorcycle License can be replaced in person at any DMV office in the State.

WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE

You must replace your motorcycle license if your original license has been lost, stolen or destroyed.

TO REPLACE IN PERSON

You must:

  • Bring proper identification. The state of Nevada requires that you present a proof of your identity. This can be a US birth certificate, US passport or military ID and your Social Security card, among other documents.
  • Bring the correct fee. Cash, checks and money orders for the exact amount are accepted. Credit and debit cards also accepted at DMV offices.
  • You can renew your Nevada motorcycle license at any time. So you can choose to renew your license instead of applying for a replacement, if you are relatively close to the license expiration date.
  • Homeless persons can obtain a one-time waiver of the duplicate license fee. This needs to be applied for in person at a DMV office, accompanied by a Proof of Identity, a Driver License Application and a filled in Declaration of Homeless Status.

Note: Nevada residents who are temporarily out of state and unable to apply in person may apply for a duplicate motorcycle license through the mail. Such persons may include military personnel or students who are either out of the state or country, among others.

  • Download and complete the application form from the Department of Motor Vehicles website.
  • Obtain a check or money order for the correct amount, made payable to: Department of Motor Vehicles.

Mail the completed form, along with your payment to:
