How to Renew/Replace a Motorcycle License in Rhode Island
HOW TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE
A Rhode Island Motorcycle License can be renewed in person at any DMV office in the State. The Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles notifies owners of the expiration date of their motorcycle license by mail, approximately three weeks in advance.
WHEN TO RENEW YOUR MOTORCYCLE LICENSE
Rhode Island motorcycle licenses normally have a validity of five years from the date of issue and two years if you are over seventy years of age. If your license expired over 3 years ago, you need to take a fresh knowledge test and road test for a new license.
TO RENEW IN PERSON
You must bring:
- Your current motorcycle license and renewal form received in the mail.
- Proof of residency in case a change of address is required on the license.
- The renewal fee payable by cash or personal checks.

- If you are close to the expiry of your motorcycle license, you can renew your license instead of applying for a replacement.
- Prepare a duplicate-request affidavit explaining the reason for your inability to appear in person, and have it notarized.
