How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Nebraska

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration by mail. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date either through the mail or in person.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY U.S. MAIL

  1. Send the expiring registration document along with the proof of insurance in original (as photocopies are not accepted) and the appropriate payment to the county treasurer's office. The method of payment should be confirmed with the county treasurer's office.
  2. The renewed certificate, license plates and validation tabs will be sent by mail.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN PERSON

  1. Locate the DMV office in your area.
  2. Bring the expiring registration document along with the proof of insurance in original (as photocopies are not accepted) and the appropriate payment to pay for the renewal. The method of payment should be confirmed with the county treasurer's office.
  3. The renewed certificate, license plates and validation tabs will be handed over immediately after verification of documents

FEES

Registration for different categories of vehicles in Nebraska will have different fees that range from $4.50 to $1,140 and can be calculated here, using the Online Vehicle Tax Estimator, or by contacting the local county treasurer's office.

FOR CORRECTIONS

  1. Before renewal, check for errors in the pre-printed vehicle renewal notice that arrived in the mail.
  2. For correction or change of address, visit the local county treasurer's office with the address proof (copy of lease agreement or utility bill) to correct your address before renewing.
