How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Alaska

The Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration by mail. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date either through the mail, using the DMV's online service, or in person.

  • The completed documents must be submitted before the sixth day of the month in which the registration expires.

[edit] REGISTRATION RENEWAL VIA THE INTERNET

  1. Please ensure that your current address is updated in the DMV records.
  2. Go to the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles Online Services website.
  3. Have your credit card (Visa or MasterCard) handy to pay for the renewal. Please note that debit cards are not accepted.
  4. There is no additional fee for online renewals.

  1. Locate the DMV office in your area or visit an I/M Station.
  2. Bring the completed registration renewal form, last issued registration, the pre-bill and I/M inspection certificate (if required) along with a personalized check or money order.
  3. There is an additional $10 fee for renewing in person, unless your registration has been expired for more than a year.
  4. I/M stations may or may not charge additional fees and require the pre-bill. Please check with your preferred I/M Station for details.
  5. Please note that I/M stations cannot process your registration if you do not have two license plates.

  1. Before renewal, check for errors in the pre-printed vehicle renewal notice (pre-bill) that arrived in the mail.
  2. For correction or change of address you can use the online services to correct your address before renewing.
  3. For any other error send an email to the DMV.
