How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Kentucky
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration by mail. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date either through the mail, using the DMV's online service, or in person.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL BY U.S. MAIL
- Send the completed registration renewal form along with the current registration card, insurance proof and the appropriate payment to the local County Clerk's Office.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL VIA THE INTERNET
- Go to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Online Services website.
- Have your Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card handy to pay for the renewal. You will also need your license plate number and title number.
- There is an additional fee of $5 for online renewals.
- Online registration renewals can only be requested for vehicles meeting the specified criteria.
REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN PERSON
- Locate the County Clerk's office in your area.
- Bring the registration renewal form, the current registration, insurance proof along with cash, check, credit or debit card to pay for the renewal.
FEES
Registration for different categories of vehicles in Kentucky will have different fees in accordance with the relevant county, age of the vehicle and the vehicle property tax. You will have to contact your local County Clerk's Office for details of the appropriate fees.FOR CORRECTIONS
- Before renewal, check for errors in the pre-printed vehicle renewal notice that arrived in the mail.
