The Bureau of Motor Vehicles notifies vehicle owners of the expiration date of their vehicle registration by mail or through e-mail reminders to owners who ask for them. Vehicle registrations can be renewed before the expiration date using the BMV's online service, or in person.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL VIA THE INTERNET

1. Go to the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles Online Services website.
2. Have your credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) or an electronic withdrawal from your checking account, depending on the form of payment that your municipality accepts.
3. There is no additional fee for online renewals.
4. You will need your current vehicle registration, your insurance card, your vehicle's current mileage and a printer.

REGISTRATION RENEWAL IN PERSON

1. Locate the BMV office in your area.
2. Bring the registration renewal form, evidence of insurance along with credit card or electronic check to pay for the renewal.

FOR CORRECTIONS

1. For correction or change of address, you can use the online services to correct your address before renewing.
2. For any other error, dial the toll-free number (207) 624-9000, and explain the error to the BMV customer service agent
