They can begin with the drivers license renewal process as early as one year prior to the expiration date. When visiting the nearest DMV office, you will need to submit both a primary and secondary form of identification, along with proof of legal presence and payment for the required driving license renewal fee.

Fees

The driving license renewal fees in Oklahoma vary, depending on the type of license you want to renew. The fee for a regular drivers license renewal in Oklahoma is $33.50. Renewal fees may be subject to change without any warning, therefore contact the OK DMV before making any payments. Oklahoma residents who want to renew their driving licenses must always be prepared to use a proper method of payment in order to pay the required renewal fee.

When to Renew Your Oklahoma Driver's License

Drivers who want to apply for a drivers license renewal can do so before the expiration date. Expired License

Drivers in Oklahoma who have to renew expired drivers licenses must complete their request at an OK DPS office. If your driver's license has been expired for three years or less, you will be allowed to apply for a drivers license renewal process under the condition that you are reexamined and that you present proof of identification. As part of renewing drivers licenses in Oklahoma, motorists must pass the vision exam, the written drivers knowledge test and the driving skills test.

Requirements To Renew An Oklahoma License

Residents can apply for an Oklahoma drivers license renewal only if they complete certain requirements set by the state's Department of Public Safety (OK DPS). In order to renew your drivers license, you must submit the following documentation when you go in person at the nearest OK DMV office:

  • Primary form of identification.
  • Secondary form of identification.

To renew licenses in Oklahoma that are suspended, drivers must first get their driving privileges reinstated. Therefore, drivers can either attend traffic school or wait for the suspension period to be over in order to renew their drivers licenses. Additionally, you can contact the OK DPS for more information about your specific situation.

Note: Check your license status and demerit points by ordering a copy of your Oklahoma driving record, before renewing your drivers license.

Renewing Your OK Drivers License By Mail

Residents are required to renew their drivers licenses in Oklahoma at a local OK DMV office. However, if they are currently out of the state, they will be able to finish the drivers license renewal process by mail, when sending a letter to the Department of Public Safety. The letter should contain the following personal information:

  • Your full name.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Your current OK driver's license number.
  • Your Oklahoma address.
  • Your out-of-state mailing address.

You must send this letter along with primary and secondary forms of identification, as well as with a payment for the required driving license renewal fee.

Note: You will be allowed to complete the drivers license renewal process by mail only if your last renewal was completed in person at any OK DPS office. If you are a non-US citizen, this option is not available to you.

Non US Citizen

The Oklahoma drivers license renewal process is the same for non citizens as for regular U.S. citizens. The only difference is that non U.S. citizens are required to present their immigration documents when renewing their drivers license. Drivers who have let their driver's license expire will have to show their permanent resident card, if applicable. If you need further details about your specific situation, contact the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (OK DPS).

Out-of-State Military Renewal

Military members can renew Oklahoma drivers licenses in a period of 60 days after they get back from their active, out-of-state military service. If you are an active military member, or the spouse or dependent of a military member, you can apply for a drivers license renewal in a period of 60 days after the discharge date. However, if you want to renew your drivers license while out of Oklahoma, you can do so by mail. You will have to fulfill all requirements set for out-of-state residents. Drivers who have allowed their drivers license to expire must submit copies of their military orders as well.

I've lived in OK almost all

I've lived in OK almost all of my life. I thought I had a year before it was time to renew. Apparently I was wrong. My social security number is on my medicare form but my card was destroyed by my baby grand daughter. I do have marriage license , my old license, my finger prints are on file and I still look like me in the photo. Cant a marriage license and medicare card be enough to simply renew my license? My birth cert is gone and has been for years. I do have enough collateral 'proof' that I am who I say I am. What would have happened if I'd been mugged or my house burned down?

This page doesn't state where to go to renew a license if you are using ID other than a birth certificate. My license is expired by one week, and I don't have a copy of my birth certificate--I only have a passport as ID. Where do I need to go to renew my license?
