To replace drivers licenses in AL, motorists currently within the state can appear personally at a Probate Judge or License Commissioner Office. Note that you may choose to complete the replacement process online as well. The Alabama drivers license replacement process is also available to applicants residing out of state, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. In case of an AL lost drivers license, the Department of Public Safety does not strictly require one to file a report with the police. However, before applying to replace lost drivers licenses at any DMV office in AL, you may first consider reporting the case to prevent identity theft or fraud.

Currently, the cost to replace drivers license in AL is $31.25. Note that drivers can order their AL duplicate drivers license via the self-serve kiosks available at any driver license examining office, and thus avoid the long queues.

In Person

Should you decide to replace your lost drivers license personally, you must provide proof of identity. One example of such documentation may be a certified birth certificate.

Note: To complete the replacement procedure, drivers are not required to take any tests, but they must be sure to have the proper payment on hand.

In case you have changed your address of residence and wish to have your new address on the license to drive, you must personally appear at a nearby AL DMV location to obtain an Alabama duplicate drivers license. In both cases, drivers will be charged a $31.25 fee for the corrected, duplicate license.

Online

To apply for an AL drivers license copy online, drivers must first visit the official website of the state's Department of Public Safety. Once there, you should locate the Alabama Online Driver License Issuance page to begin the process. Should you choose to replace your drivers license using the online service, you must be prepared to include this listed information:

  • Your full name.
  • Driver's license number.
  • Date of birth.
  • Last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).
