Do I need to turn in my damaged car title?
You do not need to turn in your damaged car title. You should hold onto it until your car title replacement arrives in the mail. On your Application for Replacement Title, you must certify what happened to your title and why you are applying for a replacement. You can only order a car title replacement if your title is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. You may not apply for a replacement title if you believe you know who is in possession of the original title.

How do I file a police report if my car title was stolen?
To report a stolen car title, you are encouraged to file a police report at the nearest police station. If your car title information is found to be stolen, then you may be protected from unlawful use of your vehicle and personal information. The Oregon DMV can only issue a replacement car title if the original one is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.

How do I obtain a duplicate car title?

To apply for a car title transfer from another state to Oregon, you must:
  • Fill out an Application for Title and Registration.
  • Pass an emissions test if you are required to do so.
  • Provide the odometer reading.

How do I transfer my car title if I lost the original?
If the original title of a vehicle is lost, you may be able to order a replacement and transfer it in the same transaction at the Oregon DMV. This is possible if the vehicle is not required to have an odometer reading and if one registered owner will remain on the title. If that is not the case, then you may replace and transfer car titles by doing the following:
  • Fill out an Application for a Replacement Title
  • Provide Bill of Sale or Lien Release
  • Fill out an Application for Title and Registration

How do I transfer my car title?
If you have sold a used vehicle in Oregon, you must make a transfer of title. Sign the back of the pink slip, include the price and the odometer price, then fill out an Application for Title and Registration. As a courtesy, inform the buyer if the vehicle must pass vehicle emissions testing.

The seller must then pay any car title, car registration, and license plate fees associated with a car title transfer.

How do I transfer the title of my RV?
To transfer the title of an RV, you must follow the process outlined below:
  • Fill out an Application for Title and Registration
  • Make sure that you follow the title and registration requirements depending on if it is a new, used or registered out-of-state RV.
  • Pay the $77 title fee

There are extra fee per foot applied to the registration fees for RVs longer than ten feet.

How long does it take to receive my replacement car title after ordering online?

If a family member dies and leaves his or her car to me, how do I switch over the title?
If you are inheriting a vehicle in Oregon, provide proof of the inheritance as well as supporting information on the vehicle. To apply for a car title transfer, you must:
  • Provide the court-issued document naming you as the inheritor.
  • Provide the Oregon title.
  • Fill out an Application for Title and Registration.
  • Provide supporting documents needed to transfer a title.
  • Pay all applicable car title and car registration fees.

You may only apply for a replacement title if your original title has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. If you are registering your car at the same time you are replacing car title, then you will also need to include registration and if applicable, plate fees into your cost configuration.

To replace car title certification, you must submit a signed Application for Replacement Title to the DMV or take them to your local office with your payment. What if the original is located after my car title replacement has been issued?
If you locate your original car title after your car title replacement has been issued, then you will want to hold on to your original title until the duplicate arrives. Your duplicate title will be mailed to your mailing address. It will take from three to five weeks to arrive once your paperwork has been received. If you believe you know who is in possession of your original car title, you may not apply for a replacement. The DMV only issues replacement car titles if your original was lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed.

What is the process to get a title for a scooter or motorcycle?
To get a title for a moped, you must follow the following requirements:

When should I complete a Bill of Sale?
Oregon law requires that you transfer all rights to a vehicle upon its sale. You will need to complete a Bill of Sale form if you are doing any of the following:

  • Transferring the title of a vehicle from another state to Oregon
