How to Replace a Motorcycle License in Missouri
Motorcyclists must apply for a Missouri motorcycle license replacement if and when they lose possession of their bike credential, since riding a motorbike without the proper license is punishable by traffic citations. To successfully replace a motorcycle license with the state Department of Revenue (DOR), applicants will be required to submit their request through a DOR licensing office. If completing the request in person is an unavailable option due to a temporary absence from the state, riders may also be able to replace their credentials by mail. Note that, to replace a lost license, applicants will have to abide by the regulations of the standard driving license replacement process.
When is a motorcycle license replacement required in Missouri?
The main reason to replace a motorcycle license in Missouri is having a damaged, stolen or lost motorbike license. You will also have to initiate the MO bike license replacement procedure in other situations as well. For example, if you have made changes to your name, address or gender and you would like to have them reflected on your credential, you will need an updated license. You will also have to replace your credential if you would like to add permanent designations, such as boater identification or veteran designation. If you are replacing your license under such circumstances, however, you will require additional paperwork.
Note: If your lost or invalid credential expires within the next six months, you have the option of completing the bike license renewal process to avoid paying a double fee.
How to Replace a Missouri Motorcycle License by Mail
Finalizing the Missouri motorcycle license replacement process by mail is an option that is only available to riders who are temporarily absent from the state for a valid reason. For example, members of the military with a damaged, stolen or lost motorcycle license can obtain a replacement by mailing the DOR Mail-In Driver License Application (Form 4317) to the department’s Driver License Bureau in Jefferson City. To successfully complete a request for a replacement license as a member of the military, you will be required to send the 4317 form along with the fee payment and the following supporting paperwork:
- One proof of your military service or dependent status, such as your military ID
- One proof of name and birth date, such as a birth certificate or a passport
- One document containing your Social Security Number or a letter of ineligibility
- Proof of an official name change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce document or adoption papers, if applicable
- Evidence of a Missouri residential address, such as a paycheck stub, tax receipt or financial statement
After receiving your request to replace a bike license by mail, the state DOR will review the application packet for completeness and correctness. If and when your application is processed, the department will manufacture a new credential and mail it to your out-of-state address.
