If you are under 18, and you are still interested in getting a motorcycle permit, you show proof that you have completed a driver's ed course, and must be at least 16 years old.

To obtain your permit, you have to pass a vision examination, a written test, provide a proof of identity, and pay the application fee.

To prepare for the written test, you should read the motorcycle driver manual, which is provided by each state's DMV, and you can take some online practice tests, as well. A motorcycle permit has certain restrictions, which means you are required to wear eye protection, you can only ride during daytime, and you have to wear a helmet.

After you have obtained your permit, you will have to carry it with you for a certain period of time, and then you can apply for a motorcycle license. You have to pass a road skills test, or complete a motorcycle safety course. You also have to pay a license fee. After you pass the test, the DMV will issue your license or motorcycle endorsement.
