How to Replace a Lost Vehicle Title in Alaska
You may apply for a duplicate vehicle title at any Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) if your original title is lost, stolen, or damaged. Alternately, you may apply by mail (address below). A vehicle less than ten years old with a missing title cannot be bought or sold, so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.
WHAT YOU NEED WHEN APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE/REPLACEMENT TITLE
- Complete the Affidavit of Lost. If you cannot access the form, you can write a letter of application for a duplicate title. The letter must include your name, complete Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), a description of the vehicle, and your signature.
- Once completed, you must have the affidavit or letter properly notarized.
- If your title shows a lienholder, you must include a completed and notarized Lien release with your application.
- If you have it, include a copy of the last registration issued.
FEES
Along with your application form and the other materials, you must submit a $15.00 duplicate title fee. Checks and money orders should be payable to the Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles.
