You may apply for a duplicate vehicle title if your original title is lost, stolen, or damaged. A vehicle with a missing title cannot be bought or sold, so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.

WHAT TO DO TO APPLY FOR A DUPLICATE/REPLACEMENT TITLE

1. Visit your local county clerk office along with your registration certificate and any applicable information regarding your vehicle.
2. File an affidavit mentioning the loss.
3. There is no state-wide form for a duplicate title and each county has its own version of the form. Some counties provide the form online.

FEES

Along with your documents, you must submit a $9 duplicate title fee.

SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION

You have to submit the application and fees for a duplicate title at your local county clerk's office.

• Duplicate title will be issued only after 11 days of the filing of the affidavit.
