You may apply for a duplicate vehicle title if your original title is lost, stolen, or damaged. A vehicle with a missing title cannot be bought or sold, so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.
[edit] WHAT YOU NEED WHEN APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE/REPLACEMENT TITLE
- Complete the Lost, Stolen or Destroyed Certificate of Title Report and the Application for Title and Registration. You must have your odometer mileage reading.
- If your title shows a lien, your title will be sent to the lien holder. You can submit the Satisfaction of Title Lien to the DMV. The form is available online, or at your local DMV office.
- If your original title is damaged or mutilated, you must return the original title when applying for a replacement.

Along with your application form and the other materials, you must submit a $15 duplicate title fee. Checks should be payable to the South Carolina DMV.
