How to Replace a Lost Vehicle Title in Connecticut

You may apply for a duplicate vehicle title if your original title is lost, stolen, or damaged. A vehicle with a missing title cannot be bought or sold, so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.

WHAT YOU NEED WHEN APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE/REPLACEMENT TITLE

  1. Complete a request for the Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title form online or by calling (800) 842-8222 inside Connecticut and (860) 263-5700 from the Hartford area or from outside Connecticut. The form will be mailed to you.
  2. Once completed, you must have the application form properly notarized.
  3. If your title shows a lienholder, you must include a lien release.

FEES

The fee for replacing a lost title in Arizona is $25. At the DMV offices cash, money orders, bank checks and personal checks are accepted. Do not send cash via mail.

SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION

If your title number is below 20,000,000 you have to mail the duplicate title application and fees to:
Department of Motor Vehicles
Title Division
60 State St.
Wethersfield, CT 06161
The title will be processed in about two weeks. If your title number is 20,000,000 or above, you can apply for a duplicate title in person at any satellite office or full-service DMV. But you have to provide proper identification.
