How to Replace a Lost Vehicle Title in Iowa
You may apply for a duplicate vehicle title if your original title is lost, stolen, or damaged. A vehicle with a missing title cannot be bought or sold, so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.
WHAT YOU NEED WHEN APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE/REPLACEMENT TITLE
- Complete the Application for Replacement of Iowa Certificate of Title to a Motor Vehicle.
- If the vehicle has multiple ownerships, be sure to include the names of all title holders.
- If your title shows a lienholder, the replacement application should be submitted by the lienholder or otherwise a notarized Cancellation of Security Interest form needs to be included with your application.
FEES
Along with your application form and the other materials, you must submit a $15 replacement title fee. Your local Iowa County Treasurers' Office can furnish details on accepted methods of payment.
