You may apply for a duplicate vehicle title if your original title is lost, stolen, or damaged. A vehicle with a missing title cannot be bought or sold, so owners must apply for and obtain a replacement before they can sell their vehicle.

WHAT YOU NEED WHEN APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE/REPLACEMENT TITLE

1. Complete the MV213 form, making sure to indicate on the form that you are applying for a duplicate title, and signed by all owner/s. Include the tag number with its expiration date and an odometer disclosure.
2. The driver license number of all owner/s must be included. In the absence of a lien holder, owner/s also needs to include a copy of some ID with signature proof when applying for the duplicate on mail. In the presence of a lien, the lienholder must complete a section at the bottom of the MV213. A duplicate title cannot include a new lien, and needs to be processed later.
3. If some one holds a Power of Attorney, the original notarized must be attached along with the MV213. The authorized person can then sign the application twice, once by himself and once on behalf of the owner.
4. If some one is authorized by the owner to process the duplicate title, he will have to sign his name and provide his driver's license number in the space indicated.
5. Include a self-addressed return envelope for mailed applications.
6. If your original title is damaged or mutilated, you must return the original title when applying for a replacement.

FEES

Along with your application form and the other materials, you must submit a duplicate title fee of $25. In the presence of a lien, the fee for a corrected title is $35.
