If your Delaware driver's license or identification card has been lost, stolen, or mutilated, you can apply for a replacement or duplicate license at your local Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Instructions for replacing a lost, stolen or mutilated Delaware driver's license or identification card:
- Locate the Delaware DMV office nearest you. Be sure to note the days and hours of operation.
- Bring proper identification. The state of Delaware requires that you present 3 pieces of ID with your signature on at least one of them when applying for a duplicate driver's license or identification card.
- Bring the correct fee. Normally, there is a $10 fee for replacing a lost, stolen, or mutilated license. Cash, credit cards, and checks are accepted. Please contact your local DMV office to confirm the fee before applying in person, since fees may vary.
Instructions for Delaware residents who are temporarily out of state:
Delaware residents who are temporarily out of state or country on travel and unable to apply in person may apply for a duplicate license or identification card by calling (302) 744 2506. A temporary license that is valid for 60 days will be mailed to you free of cost. Once you return to Delaware, a permanent replacement can be obtained by visiting the local DMV office. Delaware residents who are living temporarily outside like students or those in the military can apply for a permanent replacement license by mail. Additional Information
- If your license or identification will expire within the next 60 days, you can renew your license or identification card instead of applying for a replacement.
- You cannot apply for a replacement driver's license or identification online.
