If your North Dakota driver's license or identification card has been lost, stolen, or mutilated, you can apply for a replacement or duplicate license at your local Department of Transportation (NDDOT) driver license site.
Instructions for replacing a lost, stolen or mutilated North Dakota driver's license or identification card:
- Locate the North Dakota DOT driver license site nearest you. Be sure to note the days and hours of operation.
- Bring proper identification. The state of North Dakota requires that you present proof of name and date of birth in the form of an acceptable ID.
- Bring the correct fee. Normally, there is an $8 fee for replacing a lost, stolen, or mutilated license. Please contact your local NDDOT driver license site to confirm the fee before applying in person, since fees may vary.
Instructions for North Dakota residents who are temporarily out of state:
North Dakota residents who are temporarily out of state and unable to apply in person may apply for a temporary duplicate license by emailing NDDOT at dl@nd.gov with their name, date of birth and fax number. If no fax number is available, then the applicant will have to bear overnight shipping charges. The temporary license will be processed and sent in approximately three business days.Additional Information
- If your license or identification will expire within the next 10 months, you can renew your license or identification card instead of applying for a replacement.
- You cannot apply for a replacement driver's license or identification online.
