How to Apply for a Motorcycle License in Nevada
You can apply for an instruction permit and license at any DMV office in Nevada. The permit is not necessary if you undertake a certified rider's course (see below).
New Applicants Over 18
Listed below are the requirements to obtain an instruction permit:
- Complete the application form - original must be submitted in person; no photocopies are allowed.
- Pay an application fee ($21.25).
- Pass the vision test.
- Pass the knowledge test. See practice tests for more information on the written exam.
New Applicants Under 18
Irrespective of whether they choose to get a permit or take the course, applicants under 18 must also complete a driver education course.
Instruction Permit (Learner's Permit)
Once you complete the aforementioned prerequisites, you will be given an instruction permit. This permit will allow you to practice driving a motorcycle.
Instruction Permit Restrictions
With your instruction permit you are not permitted to:
- Drive on the highway.
- Drive during the evening.
- Ride with any passengers.
- Ride without the guidance of a licensed rider who is at lest 21 years of age.

The Skills Test
Not all DMV offices conduct the skills test. Contact your local office for confirmation. You must book in advance.
Fees
The fee for an instruction permit is $21.25 as is the fee for the license. If the application expires, some steps to acquiring the permit or license may have to be repeated.
