How to Apply for a Motorcycle License in Montana
You can apply for a motorcycle learner's license and endorsement at any driver exam station in Montana. In order to apply for a motorcycle learner's license you must first hold a regular license. The minimum age for a license holder is 15 years. Graduated driver licensing law applies in Montana.
New Applicants
Listed below are the requirements to obtain a motorcycle learner's license:
- Book an appointment for the knowledge test in advance. Ensure that you are familiar with the content in the motorcycle supplement.
- Complete the application form - original must be submitted in person; no photocopies are allowed.
- Pay the application fee ($5).
- Pass the vision test.
- Submit the required documents for proof of identity.
- Pass the written motorcycle test. See practice tests for more information on the written exam.
Motorcycle Learner's License
Once you complete the aforementioned prerequisites, you will be given a motorcycle learner's license. This permit will allow you to practice driving a motorcycle.Applying for a Motorcycle Endorsement

- You must attend with a registered and properly fitted motorcycle (see the motorcycle supplement for details).
- Pass the skills test for your endorsement.
Fees
The learner's license costs $5, while the endorsement attracts a nominal annual fee of $0.50. If the application expires, some steps to acquiring the permit or license may have to be repeated.Additional Information
