How to Replace ID Cards in North Dakota in Person

When replacing identification cards in person, applicants are typically required to prove their identity and state residency and pay the fee for the ID card replacement. However, depending on the reason for ordering an ND duplicate identification card, you may also be required to submit additional documentation.

For example, if you are correcting or updating your name, you will have to present the corresponding name change paperwork. To successfully complete the DMV ID replacement, applicants will be required to:

  • Submit an acceptable proof of identity, such as a U.S. birth certificate, a U.S. passport, a military ID card or a Social Security card.
  • Submit proof of state residency (if required).
  • Present supporting evidence confirming the reason for obtaining a copy of ID card (if applicable).
  • Pay the applicable fee for a replacement ID card.
