TRAFFIC SCHOOLS

In the state of California, traffic schools are often referred to as Driving Schools. They offer Defensive Driving Courses. The schools are licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). They must have liability insurance and maintain records for DMV inspection. There are many reasons why people enroll in the Defensive Driver Courses:

  • After a traffic violation where demerit points were awarded, the course at a traffic/driving school will improve their safe-driving skills.
  • To remove traffic violation points.

This program is designed to help you to learn defensive driving techniques that will make you a safer driver. The Defensive Driver Courses must be approved the state of California. There are various locations offered in California.

BENEFITS

Any driver who has obtained a ticket can enroll in a traffic school and prevent points from accumulating and familiarize you with safe driving practices.

WHEN IS IT MANDATORY?

Either the court or the DMV (when notified by the courts) may order you to successfully complete a defensive driver course when you have been convicted of a moving or traffic violation. It is under the court’s discretion as to whether or not you will be mandated to take one of these courses. You will have a stipulated time to finish the course and if it is NOT completed successfully you will have you license suspended until the requirement has been fulfilled.

FEES

Please contact the traffic school locations for details on pricing.

July 7th I was involved in a traffic accident in Nevada. I was issued a citation for "failure to yield ROW entering the roadway". I have a California drivers license. Is it possible to take the defensive drivers course even though there will be no Court requiring it?

My car has a modern 4 ohv

My car has a modern 4 ohv engine, steel beltedtires rated well over 100 mph, a 4 disc anitlock braking system, airbags and is rather new and well maintained. There is no logical reason to drive only 65 mph in daylight on a flat open road with no traffic but I got a ticket anyway. This is stupid.

The National speed limit hasn't increased since it was introduced in the 1960s, cars have generally become much much safer with improved visibility, lighting, tyre technology, suspension, braking, steering, etc.

Time for some common sence. Only the USA is stupid like this.

Just because the cars have

Just because the cars have improved, doesn't mean the humans who drive them have. Your review just proves it. The more fancy and shiny cars become is just more of a reason to keep the speed limit the same. If people enjoy running down animals crossing the road on purpose, then what difference would it make to them if they had a little 'speed showdown' or tapped bumpers in a pathetic show of dominance?

Even if you could be a sensible 100mph driver, USA knows the majority of people aren't and won't ever be. If you really feel the need to drive in adrenaline then go to on of those states that have roads with no speed limits on them at all, you'd fit right in.
