As soon as license plates are lost, stolen or illegible they must be replaced.

Regular Series

These are the different types of plates in the regular series: Tree, Salmon, Crater Lake, Cultural, HAM amateur radio operator, antique vehicle and special interest. The tree plate is the most common. You can also obtain other plates like Veteran, service related, higher education, and non-profit plates. Please visit the following link for see the information on regular license plates. When you have completed the forms, take them to your local DMV office and submit them with the appropriate fees (see below).

Antique Plates

The DMV offers two types of special plates—antique plates for vehicles manufactured before 1954 that may be used only for display purposes and special interest plates for vehicles that are at least 25 years old and maintained as a collector's item. Click on these links to access the applications form for replacing the different types of special interest plates. When you have completed the form, take them to your local DMV office and submit them with the appropriate fees (see below).
Personalized Plates    
You can also obtain your own customized plate from the DMV in Oregon. Your plate can have between one and six characters and one hyphen or space. No punctuation is allowed on the plate. In order to apply for these you must:

Note: Only disabled veterans plates are provided for disabled drivers in Oregon. But this does not allow parking in spaces for the disabled.

If you sell your vehicle, you can either transfer the plates to a similar vehicle or surrender them to the DMV office.
