[edit] LOST OR STOLEN LICENSE PLATES
As soon as license plates are lost, stolen or illegible they must be replaced. In order to replace your plates you must:
- Visit your local SOS office.
- Present proper forms of ID.
- Hand in any remaining license plates.
- Pay the license plate replacement fees of $5 for standard plates.

Regular Series
These are the different types of plates in the regular series for all vehicles: Standard Plate, Great Lakes Splendor Plate, Spectacular Peninsula Plates and Permanent Trailer Plate. Please see the proper application forms for regular series license plates. When you have completed the forms, take them to your local SOS office and submit them with the appropriate fees (see below).Special Interest Plates
Michigan offers several categories of special interest plates: Fundraising License Platesâincluding subcategories of University, Special Causes, Patriotic and Support our Troops; Personalized Plates; Veteran/Military Service Plates; and Collector License Plates.âincluding subcategories of Nonprofit, Standard Collector, Special Cause Collector, University Collector and Veteran Collector Plates. The following is a list of some examples of special interest plates: Central Michigan University, Agricultural Heritage, Patriotic, Support Our Troops, Army Veteran and Medal of Honor. Under Michigan Law it is NOT mandatory to retain license plates from a vehicle when selling. The plates may remain with the buyer once the ownership of the vehicle has been transferred.[edit] ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
