Arrived at the end of the month, late in the day. No line, no wait. The woman at the first counter was extremely helpful. The man inside at the license renewal was less polite. All in all, this was the best experience I have ever had at a NJ Motor Vehicle agency. In comparison to other closer agencies, this place is the best!

Third time a charm. Went to Oakland MVC on June 25, 2011 after being shut out of the Wayne facility twice. It was definitely a better experience except for having to drive about twice as far. Left home at 7:15 am, arrived in parking lot 7:39ish. Got in line inside the building which was a plus as at Wayne and other facilities you have to wait outside in all weather. Doors opened after 8:00am (on their clock which is posted inside the MVC office). They split the line into license renewal and (it seemed) everything else. Let the "everything else" line in first - a practice I detest because at both facilties, people who arrived later could get in before those already in line. A nice staff person took the time to go through the line giving out applications and answering questions. Another staff member let a bunch of license people in. Later, when the line was moving more people went in and the staff member yelled to wait. Once you get in the door, you wait in a line to see a representative who checks your documents. Then, puts your documents in a numbered envelop and sends you to a waiting area with chairs. I say "with chairs" because there is a lot of standing and the chairs are a welcome site. After a while your number gets called and you wait in another line for another representative who rechecks and enters your documents. Your picture gets taken for the new license, you pay, and get your license. In sum, it took me two half days of waiting in line and never getting through the doors (at Wayne) and and two hours of waiting in line to finally getting my license at Oakland. Must note: the staff are very well trained and friendly, working under extremely stressful conditions. It may be poor decision making at the top level to have cut so many staff/facilities with the result being a terrible bottleneck for New Jersey drivers. (No pun intended). Hopefully the restoration of Monday hours will help.

Mixed reviews. Dark-haired, bearded "gentleman" at check in desk was short with me and rude. Gentleman who processed my license with kind, friendly and informative (sorry I didn't catch their names). Waiting time was about 1 1/2 hours.
