If your District of Columbia commercial driver's license (CDL) is lost, stolen, or destroyed, you can apply for a replacement license. While not required by District of Columbia law, it is a good idea to notify your local police department if you believe your CDL has been stolen.
[edit] APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE CDL IN PERSON
- Visit the Brentwood CDL Office in order to apply for a replacement CDL in person.
- Submit a completed driver's license application.
- You must present one primary or two secondary documents as valid forms of identification, one primary or two secondary documents as proof of social security number, and one primary document as District of Columbia address proof. All documents must be presented in original as DMV does not accept copies.
- Submit the replacement fee of $13.
- If your current CDL is damaged, you must surrender it at the Brentwood CDL Office when you apply for a replacement.
[edit] APPLYING FOR A DUPLICATE CDL VIA THE INTERNET
- You must know your driver's license number in order to request a duplicate CDL online.
- Complete the online form with the other required information like your full name, social security number and the license expiration date.
- Pay the $13 replacement fee with a valid Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card.
- Save the online confirmation till you receive the duplicate license in your mail from the DMV (typically within 10 business days).

- You cannot apply for a replacement commercial driver's license through the mail.
- If your name or address has changed, you may need to apply for a replacement CDL in order to correct the information.
