Vehicle Emissions Testing in Florida

In Florida, a vehicle emissions test is not required for original registrations, as well as for registration renewals, since the year 2000.

However, the state encourages motorists to lower air pollution by using vehicles classified by the EPA as ILEVs or Inherently Low Emission Vehicles.

If your vehicle is on the list of ILEVs you can fill out this application form and submit it with the $5 annual fee at you nearest tax collector's office in order to receive a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) tag. Vehicles displaying these tags are entitled to use the HOV lane regardless of the actual number of occupants.
