Most car owners like to take good care of their cars, some for purely practical reasons, so that they can preserve them and keep them in good condition, and others simply want to improve their looks. Car detailing is the highest form of car care, consisting of polishing, cleaning, waxing of both the interior and exterior of the car. A good car detailing is not easy to do, since there are a lot of small, but important things the average car owner can overlook, and that’s why there are many professionals who can do it right, but it won’t come cheap. So, it is possible to do it yourself, but you’ll need a couple of tips so you don’t make a mistake and damage the car instead of make it look better.

Interior

First off, you’ll need to get a couple of tools and various supplies before you start. You must have a vacuum cleaner, a bristle brush, a carpet cleaning solution, glass cleaner, as some of the more basic stuff. Sweep the floor and the places around and under the seats with a vacuum. Then, using a cleaning solution, clean the stains off the seats and floor mats, and if your seats are covered in leather, use leather conditioner. Afterwards, get a towel and a glass cleaner wit low abrasives content and wipe down the windows. Newspapers can do a good job with the windows, as well.

Exterior

After you’ve finished cleaning the inside, it’s time to work on the exterior. You have to get a bucket, a car wash solution, polish, wax, a couple of towels, and a hose. First, wash the car with a hose for a couple of minutes, and then take a microfiber towel, soak it in the wash solution, and start wiping the car, from the top down. Focus on one part of the body at a time, meaning you shouldn’t start wiping the hood and go on to the windows before you are done with the hood. Then, spray the wheels and clean them with a special wheel brush and wipe them using a microfiber towel. Do the same with the tires, as well. At the end, do the polishing and the waxing. You can polish it using an orbital buffer, but remember to do it smoothly and don’t apply too much pressure. Then, apply a layer of protective wax, to cover any slight imperfections.

Doing these things may be a bit exhausting and time-consuming, but if you do them properly, your car will look as good as ever and you can go ahead and show it off at car shows and feel confident that people are going like it. How would you decor your car?
