Meaning, that there are different requirements to make an appointment with the DMV in different counties and not every resident of Hawaii will have the same appointment options. How to Make an Appointment with the DMV in Hawaii

There are four main counties in the state including Hawaii, Honolulu, Kauai, and Maui. Although you might not be able to make a drivers license appointment online for each of these areas, you will be able to do by phone.


Through the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Division (VRL) in Hawaii County, you can schedule an appointment for a driving test for a standard driver’s license or a CDL. To do so, you must call the following location that applies to you:

  • Pahoa: 1-808-965-2721
  • Na`alehu: 1-808-854-7214

Most of the above driver licensing offices are open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

NOTE: If you wish to schedule a drivers license appointment for a CDL driving test, then you will need to do so in-person at either the Hilo or Kona Driver licensing office. While there, you must be sure to make payment for the driving test.

In Honolulu County, you can make a roads skill schedule a DMV appointment for a standard license or a CDL through the City and County of Honolulu’s Division of Motor Vehicle, Licensing and Permits. Although, when you use the Online Driver License Appointment for Road Test System (ARTS), you can only make a road test appointment for a standard license. To make an appointment for a CDL driving test, you must do so in-person at your local Commercial Driver Licensing Center.

Driving tests are normally administered Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., not including state holidays. Before you take the exam, you must pay a non-refundable road test fee.

In Kauai County, you can schedule a DMV appointment for a standard license, a CDL or a motorcycle through the Kauai Driver License Division (DLD). To schedule an appointment for a driving test for a standard driver’s license or for a motorcycle license, you must do so by phone by calling 1-808-241-4242. If you need to schedule or check a DMV appointment for a road skills test for a CDL, then you will need to go in person to your local Kauai Driver License office.

Driving exams are typically administered Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays. You will also need to make payment for the road test fee before you take the exam.

In Maui County, you can make a road skills appointment for a standard license or a CDL through the Maui Division of Motor Vehicles and Licensing (DMV) through the Kahului Service Center. To make an appointment for DMV driver’s license credentials, you must call 1-808-270-8080. To schedule a road test for a CDL, you must do so in-person at the Kahului Service Center, or the Molokai or Lanai office location. You will also need to make payment for the roads test fee.

 

Driving exams are managed Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. You may be able to check your DMV appointment by calling the Maui DMV if you have any questions.

 

What to Bring to Your Hawaii DMV Appointment

After you make an appointment with the local DMV, view appointment documents requirements for that area. You will need to check your DMV appointment number to find out what you need to bring with you since every county will have different requirements. Therefore, you will need to contact your county directly to determine which supporting documents you will need to bring with you for your driving test. Failing to do so can cause delays in taking your road skills test.

 

In most cases, you will need to show vehicle registration and valid auto insurance for the vehicle you plan to use during the driving test.

How to Cancel or Reschedule a DMV Appointment in Hawaii

If something has come up and you can no longer make your appointment, then you must reschedule or cancel an appointment with the DMV before the time of your exam.
