Washington Drivers Education

Washington teen drivers are required to meet certain requirements before obtaining a regular Washington state driver’s license.

Teen drivers who are at least 15 years of age are required to complete a driver education course approved by the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL). Drivers are required to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction, six hours of behind-the-wheel experience and six hours of driving observation.

Washington Defensive Driving

The Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) requires drivers to complete a state-approved defensive driving class for the following reasons:

  • Court order.
  • Car insurance premium discount.
  • Voluntary/personal education.

If you enroll in a driver improvement course, it may last from four to eight hours.
