Ohio Defensive Driving & Drivers Education
Ohio defensive driving courses, referred to as remedial driving courses in the state, are taken by drivers for a number of reasons. Drivers may be eligible to complete remedial driving courses to earn a credit of points to their OH driving record, whereby avoiding a driver’s license suspension. Completion of traffic school may also be mandated by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles or by a municipal court. Drivers education in Ohio is a requirement for any first-time driving license applicant younger than 18 years of age. Driving classes for teenagers can be taken either online or in person. Ohio Driver Education
Drivers ed is a required course for residents to receive a OH driving license if they are between 16 to 18 years of age. Teen driving school students must accumulate at least 24 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of behind-the-wheel experience. Residents have the option to complete the classroom portion of their driver ed online or in person. In addition to formal driver training, applicants must also submit an affidavit certifying that they have completed 50 hours of supervised driving.

Ohio Defensive Driving
Ohio defensive driving courses are known as remedial driving courses. Drivers take driving classes for reasons that include:
- Reinstating a driver’s license.
- Court ordered.
- Point credit.
- Insurance premium reduction.
- Voluntary/personal education.
The eight-hour remedial driving course can be completed either online or in person through state approved defensive driving course providers. Taking a traffic school course qualifies drivers for a two-point credit to their OH driving record, as well as the reinstatement of driving privileges following a 12-point driver’s license suspension.
