There are various veterans benefits that the state of Wisconsin provides. This is a brief description of every benefit program including housing programs, tax exemptions, employment services.
Wisconsin State Veteran Housing Programs
A state veterans loan program is available for purchase or improvement, or construction of a single family home or condominium through the WDVA Home Loan Program. Also, veterans can borrow up to 90% of their home equity for home improvements, and it can be used for garage construction, repairs and remodeling. There are also veterans home options available.
Wisconsin Financial Assistance Programs
The Assistance to Needy Veterans and Family Members program provides limited financial assistance to those in need. It may be used for health care needs or economic emergency assistance. A refundable property tax credit is available for the primary residence for veterans aged 65 or older, the spouses of eligible veterans and spouses of veterans who died while on active duty. Wisconsin Veteran Employment Programs
Veterans will be awarded extra 10 points to a passing score on a state civil service examination. Veterans with less than 30% disability receive 15 points, and veterans with more than 30% disability receive 20 points. All Wisconsin veterans are entitled to employment assistance. The following benefits regarding employment assistance are provided: entrepreneurial training; troops to teachers program; unemployment compensation for ex-servicemembers; veterans business training center; vocational rehabilitation; Wisconsin women's business initiative. Wisconsin Veteran Education and Training
Qualifying veterans are entitled to a 50% remission through the Wisconsin G.I. Bill for Veterans. WDVA, in cooperation with The Veterans Corporation, provides the FastTrac Planning and FastTrac NewVenture entrepreneurial training courses. Unemployed or underemployed veterans who have a financial need are eligible for payments of up to $3,000 per year. More on education can be found here.
