I had very quick and efficient service when I went in to get my Driver's License renewed. I opted to get the REAL ID license. I came in a few days before my license expired, and I ran into some issues. I brought what I thought was my birth certificate, but instead it was a "Certification of Birth". My family possibly never gave me what the DMV was looking for. I had to order one from out of State.
Fortunately the DMV gave me a 60 day extension on my license.
When I brought in my birth certificate after it arrived, I still had to go back home one more time because the utility bill I brought to prove my residence was over 90 days old. This isn't the DMV's fault, they are just following the rules. Bring these documents so you can avoid trouble.

Original Birth Certificate
Original Social Security Card
Utility bill within the last 90 days
