Arrived at 1PM with no appointment so I waited 1hr 45min in line out the door. Asked to register new car, old car and take motorcycle permit test. Got my number and sat for another 1hr 45 min, OK kind of expected. John proceeded to chastise me for not knowing ahead of time that registering a brand new vehicle purchased out of state required smog (say what?!, says right on the title CA smog compliant), needs to have its door tags read by DMV employee and an odometer statement. Hmmm, it's brand new. He finds paperwork that was FedX'd to Capitola DMV from Dealer, then accuses me of not reading the instructions attached. Excuse me, your paperwork, your office, shall I break in and read something I don't know exists? No registration. Next vehicle is a 1956 pickup truck. After cashing my check, tells me it needs to be weighted. It's a pickup truck, Google it! He gives me a slip with approved weighing stations, hmmm. No registration. My final ask is for the permit test. He looks over my shoulder and says "It's 4:33, we stopped giving the test at 4:30. You're out of luck." Hey DMV, great employee, great customer service.
