Traffic/Driving Schools in Rhode Island

[edit] TRAFFIC SCHOOLS

In the state of Rhode Island, traffic schools offer Driver Improvement Programs (DIP). There are three reasons why people enroll in the Driver Improvement Programs:

  • After two or more traffic violations, the court may order the driver to take a course at a traffic/driving school to improve their safe-driving skills.
  • To receive insurance discounts.
  • To remove any labels attached to your driving record.
This program is designed to help you to learn defensive driving techniques that will make you a safer driver. The DIP is an eight hour course and there are various locations offered in Rhode Island. To find a location closest to you, contact the local DMV office.

[edit] BENEFITS

Any driver can enroll in a Driver Improvement Program at any time to receive the following benefits:
  • Insurance Benefits - some insurance companies may offer premium discounts. Please check with your insurance representative to see if you qualify for this discount.
  • Remove Labels - The DMV may attach a label to your driving record for any traffic violations. These may be removed by attending a Driver Improvement Program.

[edit] WHEN IS IT MANDATORY?

Either the court or the DMV (when notified by the courts) may order you to successfully complete a driver improvement program when you have been convicted of two or more moving or traffic violations. It is under the court's discretion as to whether or not you will be mandated to take one of these programs.

[edit] FEES

Depending on the location, the cost of the drive improvement programs may be different. You can get the cost of the program from the location where you enroll for the program. You may also be able to find the cost of the course from your local DMV office.
