Nissan recalls thousands of Qashqai cars

Nissan recalled 51,000 cars, including Qashqai, Qashqai+2 and NV200 models on September 13, 2012.

The manufacturer with an assembly plant in Sunderland, UK, said in an official statement that they had to recall thousands of cars from all over the world, due to steering wheel defects. They said that around 600 steering wheels would require replacement. The statement further read that the replacement of the parts would be made at no costs to the customers.

Nissan didn’t know which of the cars built and shipped in the last couple of months were affected by this flaw, so they had to recall all of them.

The recall comes after a Finnish owner of a Qashqai SUV had the steering wheel come loose and then completely come off. He caught it on tape and then posted it on the Internet.

Luckily, no one was hurt during the incident, because the driver was parking the car at the moment and the vehicle was moving slowly.
