Honda vs. Volkswagen

A lot of car owners have a favorite type of car from a certain car maker and they stick with it for years, staying loyal customers to the same manufacturer because their product has proven satisfactory to them. Japan car maker Honda and German manufacturer Volkswagen have put some pretty similar models on the market over the years, so although you are perhaps a fan of one of the two brands, you might consider giving the other one a chance and see what it has to offer. That is why a comparison between two cars from the two companies is useful if you are looking to buy a car and you can’t decide which one to choose.

An interesting comparison between two models in the same category from these two companies could be made for the 2013 Honda Accord Sedan LX and the 2013 Volkswagen Passat S. Starting with the technical specifications, you could say that the Passat has a slight edge with a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine over the Accord with the 2.4-liter in-line 4-cylinder engine, but the latter produces 185 horsepowers, in contrast to the 170 of the Passat, which means that the Accord gives better acceleration, with a 7.2 seconds 0-60 performance, compared to the Passat’s 7.9. This is also a result of the 6-speed manual transmission the Honda has, as opposed to the Passat’s 5-speed, also manual. Gross weight and exterior body length, width and height are pretty much the same, but the Passat provides a little more room inside and is more spacious than most similar sedans. When it comes to the interior, the Accort has great and comfortable seats, same as Passat, but with slightly better materials. Center stack instruments on both cars include screens displaying information about the navigation system, audio or air conditioning systems, but Honda has a touch screen which is too complicated as opposed to the more simplified and easier to use screen with regular buttons that the Passat has.

One of the main differences is that the Passat provides a much smoother a quieter ride and better handling, which is very important for such large cars. With more or less the same dimensions, fuel efficiency and cargo capacity, the Passat’s far better handling and the way it moves on the highway and on mountain roads, give it a significant edge over the Accord and make it one of the best sedans out there.
