The Frankfurt Auto Show is one of the largest and most important auto shows in the world. It is separated into two events, with the commercial vehicles show being held in even-numbered years and the passenger vehicles show in odd-numbered years. Since this is an even year, the commercial vehicles show was staged in Hanover. It ran from September 20th until September 27th. The other show is held in Frankfurt.

A lot of new cars are usually unveiled at this kind of shows. And the Hanover Auto Show 2012 is no exception to the rule.

Before it even started, there were a lot of speculations about what cars and technologies would be unveiled at the show. A couple of car makers also tend to hint at where they are going to introduce their latest models.

This year, the accent was put on green technologies, taking into consideration the recent huge development of innovations and the possibility of incorporating them into commercial vehicles. That is why this year a lot of electric vehicles were shown.

However, we’ll start with something that German car maker Mercedes-Benz presented in Hanover. It was the Antos short-haul truck, that comes in two versions – one with a 7.7-liter engine and one with a 12.8-liter engine.

Another vehicle Mercedes-Benz unveiled was the Vito E-Cell van. It’s an electric vehicle, with a 7-seat capacity, that runs on lithium-ion batteries and hits maximum speeds of 55 mph.

The Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid also made its debut in Hanover. It’s a commercial truck that offers reduced CO2 emissions and consumes about 25% less fuel. The electric motor has a 40kWh output and 200Nm of torque.

German car manufacturer Volkswagen premiered a couple of vans and pick-up trucks. They showed their new Caddy, the Crafter, the T series and the Amarok.

All in all, this year’s International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover was a nice and eventful auto show which offered a lot of interesting electric commercial vehicles.
