  1. The West Virginia written knowledge test consists of 25 questions. You must get at least 19 questions, or 76%, right to pass. The questions must be answered correctly within the limited time period scheduled for the test appointment.
  2. Under the West Virginia Graduated Licensing System, you must pay $5 for the Level 1 driving permit application. Two test attempts are allowed with this fee. To continue with the Level 2 intermediate drivers license, you will need to pay an additional $5 fee.
  3. To take the official West Virginia written knowledge exam, you must be at least 15 years old. New drivers must present proof of school enrollment to be able to take the test. The instruction permit is not renewable and expires when you turn 18.
