Applicants younger than 18 years of age require additional hours of classroom instruction, but all age groups must complete the same amount of behind-the-wheel drivers training. Texas driving classes for teenagers are administered by TPST driving schools and private online providers. Additionally, parents of teen drivers may take certified parent-taught drivers education courses in order to qualify to help their children fulfill the minimum hours of instruction. The minimum requirement for teen driving school is 32 hours of classroom instruction, which must be completed in 16 days or more. Learners 18 to 24 years of age must complete only six hours of classroom or online instruction. The behind-the-wheel experience requirement is 44 hours for all applicants.
