The New York Department of Motor Vehicles has issued a statement saying that it has decided to close the Fort Drum satellite office, in an effort to reduce costs. The office, which opened in 2006, will close on January 27.
DMV officials said that transactions at the Fort Drum office have been decreasing for quite some time now, leading to reduced revenues, which ultimately forced the state DMV to close it.
“We can’t compete with the online, the loss of revenue,” said Jefferson County Clerk Gizelle M. Meeks. “I can’t cut any more expenses. There isn’t any more to cut.”
