How to Renew a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in Mississippi

Renewing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in Mississippi is a relatively simple process compared to applying for a new CDL.

  1. If your CDL has been lost or stolen, you will need to apply for a replacement CDL, rather than a renewal.
  2. You must renew your CDL in person, at your local driver license office.
  3. Bring the following items with you to the local DMV office, when renewing your commercial driver's license:
  4. Your current Mississippi commercial driver's license.
  5. A valid Mississippi medical card received by a doctor certified to perform CDL physicals.
  6. You must also bring the correct CDL fee. Fees vary, depending on your age and the endorsements on your CDL. Check with your local driver license office on the exact fee before arriving for the renewal.

If your CDL includes a Hazardous Material Endorsement that you wish to retain, you must undergo a background check by the Transportation Security Administration.

  1. To start the renewal process, you need to get your fingerprints taken at your local DMV. Fingerprinting is done only in certain locations. Contact 601-987-1246 to find your nearest participating location.
  2. The application for a Hazmat endorsement will be sent to the TSA for background check, after the fingerprinting is completed.
  3. An approval letter will be mailed to you from the TSA, indicating that you have successfully completed the background check.
  4. Bring the TSA approval letter to your local driver license office and you will be permitted to test for HAZMAT at the time of renewal.

  • You may renew your CDL up to six months before it expires.
  • An additional fee will be charged for an expired commercial driver's license. If your CDL has been expired for more than one year, you will need to take several tests in order to renew your CDL. Refer to the Mississippi CDL driver's manual for the test requirements and rules.

Brookhaven Ms. this place is

Brookhaven Ms. this place is a joke tried twice today 08/14/2015 to just renew my CDL arrived the first time at 13:43 waited til 14:27 she had waited on two people the whole time . while a older man kept walking around and talking which really slowed down the process . So I decided to leave and come back I do have to work for a living not just stand around and be social . When i arrived back at !6:00 took a number and waited in line and then at 17:00 was informed I would have return back Monday . Now for most folks this may just be a slight problem but as i drive for a Living and will be in another state come Monday it is a major problem . and the employees thought this was funny as she had stated she did not take lunch the whole day . well lets see i had not been home since last Sunday and also had not eaten lunch my self but also since we use computers in our trucks cost me time made me miss the bank closing on Friday afternoon put me getting home two hours later with out my renewed Drivers licence . Also this was a early renewel mine expires in Sept. but this is unacceptable practice in a Goverment held public jobs .

I feel we need a local

I feel we need a local commercial driver's license location in Cleveland, MS. It is a hardship to have to drive 40-50 miles one-way to process my renewal. Why do we have to show a current medical in person? Can this be faxed or scanned and e-mailed?
