How to Renew a Commercial Drivers License

Your commercial drivers license in MA is valid for five years, expiring on your birthday. Renewing CDL licenses in Massachusetts is done in person at a full-service RMV center. Do not wait for your CDL license to expire. Renewing an expired CDL license

You will be required to:

  • Pass a vision exam.
  • Pass a background check that verifies nationwide vehicle violations.
  • Remit "Renew CDL" fees.
  • Take a physical exam (If you have an S endorsement)
    • S endorsement renewals will also require in-service training
  • Self-certify

Keep in mind that in order to fulfill the commercial drivers license renewal process, you will have to have paid all debts for any recent tickets, included traffic violations, criminal charges, child-support charges, parking tickets or arrest warrants. You will not be able to pay those at the RMV. Instead, you must pay the county court in which the ticket or charge was made out in. If you have late child-support payments to make, you must send payment to the Department of Revenue.

What ever happened to picking up the phone and talking to someone when you have a question? I have called every number on DMV website and they don't work. Called this number and no option to speak to someone to ask a question. Really it's all so very helpful. NOT!!!!
