Georgia defensive driving courses provide drivers with extensive knowledge and techniques to practice safe driving habits. Residents may take a driver improvement class at a DMV approved traffic school to remove points from a GA driving record, dismiss a ticket or earn a car insurance discount. Drivers education in Georgia is required by the Department of Driver Services for first-time drivers to take a course before applying for a provisional driver’s license. A first-time driver must enroll in a state-approved teen driving school when they turn 16 years of age to be eligible to receive a learner’s permit. Joshua’s Law and Drivers Education

Georgia teen driving class participants are required to meet certain requirements before obtaining a Class D driver’s license.

Drivers who are 16 years of age are required to complete a driver education course approved by the Department of Driver Services in Georgia under Joshua’s law. Drivers are also required to fulfill a cumulative total of at least 40 hours of other supervised driving experience, including at least six hours at night.

Georgia Defensive Driving

A state approved defensive driving class may be taken, as required by the Georgia Department of Driver Services, for the following reasons:

  • Reinstating a driver’s license.
  • Court ordered.
  • Point reduction.
  • Insurance premium reduction.
  • Voluntary/personal education.

If you enroll in a driver improvement course, it must be a minimum of six hours. If you intend to enroll in a GA defensive driving course to aid in any driver’s license related matter, then your course must be taken in a classroom environment.
